Genesis 18-21: Pushback & Promise - Sodom & Gomorrah

In four chapters that are chock-full of some of the best-known stories — and also some of the more ominous ones — in Genesis, we find a unifying pattern. Time after time, God first makes a promise, then people universally push back on that promise. But every time, and no matter the motive for pushback, God not only keeps his promise; He goes above and beyond and shows more of his goodness, grace, and character — to the individuals and to generations to come. If he did so in Genesis, over and over again, we can trust that he will do so today… and just maybe that will help us push back on God a little less. And while he kept his promises in Genesis, we look to Jesus as the “true and better” fulfillment of each story in Genesis, and as the greatest promise God ever made and kept.
